BIG changes at MACS
We continue to grow here, and it's all good! Since we've last sent out a newsletter, we've hired a number of new people. You may already know Chris Gilbert and James McMahan; we also bid a fond fairwell to Sean Walsh, now married and living just a bit out of reach of the DC area. New to MACS: Joe Hudak, Jay Guilaran, Jonathan Bare, Mar Rosado, and Jessica Griffin. Joe was here for just a short time due to his wife getting transferred out of the area, so his last day was Friday. Jay Guilaran, recently of the Apple Store in Clarendon, will be taking Joe's place. Jay has excellent project management experience and is a great addition to our team. Jonathan, a long-time Apple consultant in the area, joined us a couple months back. Mar is our in-house hardware tech, who also does our pick-ups and deliveries. And finally, Jessica Griffin joins us as our new Operations Manager. Contact Jessica for any non-technical issue!

Also, our phone number has changed - please update your address books to 703.236.5800. Listen for extension numbers and look for additional changes to those extensions soon.
MACS on a Skeleton Crew this week!
Please bear with us this week, as James and Will will be in Toronto for Apple Summer Camp, and Jonathan is on vacation. That leaves Chris and Jay to staff us the entire week, and unfortunately, they are booked solid. Emergencies will be dealt with as best we can, either on site in the afternoon (when Chris and Jay become more available) or remotely by Will or James. We'll do our best to answer the phones, but please leave a message and we can return your call as soon as possible.
MACS Contest #1
MACS is starting a prize contest with each newsletter. This first one is going to be easy, just to test to see if you are reading this. Be the first to reply to this message, and we'll send you a brand new Mighty Mouse, valued at $49.
What's in Mac OS X Server v10.4

Well, there is a lot. These standards-based workgroup and Internet services are built into Mac OS X Server v10.4.

Application server
Develop and deploy popular J2EE applications easily and affordably with the built-in JBOSS application server. Mac OS X Server includes powerful deployment tools that simplify configuration of application resources and EJB components.

File and printer sharing
Save time and money by centralizing data and sharing network resources. Native support for Mac, Windows, and Linux file services is built in, so you can give everyone access to shared printers and storage space on the server.

iChat Server
Keep your internal communications secure and confidential with private, encrypted instant messaging services. iChat Server works seamlessly with iChat AV for Mac OS X Tiger and popular Jabber clients available for Windows, Linux, and PDA systems.

Mail server
Set up and manage open source mail services quickly and easily. Mac OS X Server features adaptive junk mail filtering, virus detection and quarantine, and a standards-based mail server that works with all Internet-standard mail clients.

Media streaming
Stream audio and video content using the latest digital standards. QuickTime Streaming Server and QuickTime Broadcaster simplify digital media streaming and live event broadcasting, while QuickTime Publisher makes it easy to publish movies and audio.

Network services
Take the complexity out of setting up and securing your local area network with Mac OS X Server. Core services such as DNS, NAT, DHCP, Firewall, and VPN are integrated into the Server Admin utility for easy configuration and management.

Open Directory
Deploy standards-based directory and authentication services with Apple's scalable, easy-to-use LDAP solution. It provides centralized management of users, groups, address books, and computers and supports single sign-on using Kerberos.

Software distribution
Simplify deployment and software distribution with NetBoot and Network Install, Apple's innovative system imaging services. The new Software Update Server lets you control distribution of Apple software updates for easier system administration.

Server-based home directories
Host home directories on the server to centralize data management and allow users to access their work from any Mac or Windows computer on the network. Even mobile computer users can now synchronize folders automatically.

Web services
Host reliable, high-performance websites with the built-in Apache web server. Support for server-side scripting, JSPs, Java Servlets, SOAP, and weblogs makes Mac OS X Server ideal for syndicating dynamic web content and delivering sophisticated web services.

Windows integration
Support Windows clients with Samba 3-based services and native support for Windows XP permissions. Mac OS X Server can host roaming profiles, network home directories, authentication services, and high-speed file and print services for Windows users.

Workgroup management
Manage users, groups, and computers throughout your organization with Workgroup Manager. This powerful utility simplifies directory-based management of network resources while optimizing users' computing experience.

It's new. It's cool. Mighty Mouse. Simply a better mouse.

Right-click, left- click, or squeeze the sides to access key features of Mac OS X Tiger, or program custom functions. Mighty Mouse also includes the clickable Scroll Ball, an innovative feature that allows you to scroll in any direction, not simply up and down.
